Heterocycles

Heterocycles are cyclic compounds that contain elements other than carbon in the ring. Typicality nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur.

Pyridine is a solvent and industrial chemical, colorless to yellow liquid with a nauseating, fish-like odor. It is quite toxic. Furan is a laboratory solvent and industrial chemical.

Heterocycles can be fused, as in

Purine and another heterocycle,are bases (not acids) and are components from which the DNA molecules, the genetic material in all life forms, derives. More on these soon.
